Spiders are sneaky. One second they are there and the next…gone. Well not really gone. Just out of sight. Most of us think spiders are creepy and do not want them anywhere near us. At a very young age many are told spiders can bite, and you probably knew and/or experienced that “biting” hurts. Throw in a little Hollywood and Media exaggeration about the toxicity of spiders and it’s easy to see why they are a natural fear.

In reality, spiders do more good than bad. As predator type insects they are useful in keeping insect populations in check. Given this nature to feed on other insects homeowners can strike a preemptive strike by controlling all types of insects around their home. When other insects are not around spiders tend to feed upon their own.
Unfortunately seeing spiders around a home in the Phoenix area cannot be prevented even with the best Spider Exterminator service. Keeping spiders out of a home, while a challenge, can be achieved.
In order to kill their prey, all spiders use venom. Fortunately not all spiders are dangerous to humans. Knowing the differences can be difficult to the untrained.
If Black Widow Spiders, Brown Recluse Spiders, Hobo Spiders and European House Spiders are found, pest control treatment should be considered. These spiders do not create spider webs indoors.
Although there is generally little danger resulting from spider bites from most spiders, it is advisable to consult a physician if you suspect spider bites.
Effectively getting rid of spiders requires a combination of precise pest control applications, eliminating harborage areas and food sources. Attempting control without addressing all three areas will yield poor results. Hiring a professional Spider exterminator can produce immediate results.
BLACK WIDOW SPIDERS
Commonly found throughout Metropolitan Phoenix. Females have a shiny black, globular abdomen with two yellow or red markings in a triangle shape. It looks like an hourglass. Males are smaller, lighter in color, with light streaks on the abdomen. The web is irregular, many times found along exterior foundations on slabs, under stones and rocks, behind shrubs .They usually don’t enter structures and prefer dark areas with little human traffic. They can bite if provoked although they prefer to flee. The bite feels like a sharp pain, like a needle puncture. After 15 minutes to an hour there will be muscular cramps. Bites are rarely fatal, but you should seek medical attention.
BROWN RECLUSE SPIDERS
Becoming more common in Metropolitan Phoenix. The body is yellow to dark brown, with the body size of 1/3-1/2 inch long. Combined with the legs it could be about 1 inch or longer in diameter .The dorsal has a dark brown violin shaped marking, very distinctive. Their web is off white to Gray .They can be found outside or inside a home.
Brown Recluse spiders can be found in storage areas like closets, basements, bathrooms, bedrooms, attics, garages and cellars. Sometimes they can be around above the ceiling duct work or register. When inspecting for Brown Recluse spiders, use gloves and a flashlight. The Brown Recluse likes to stay hidden. There webs are off white to gray colors and they are not extensive.
Many times people get bit by putting their hands or feet in something that has been in storage. You should always wear gloves when handling debris outside the home. The initial bite is not intense, but poisonous. Within 8-12 hours, the pain becomes more intense, and over the next few days large sores form leaving a disfiguring scar. You should seek immediate medical treatment after the bite.
Wolf spiders have a brown or dark coloration with bristles on their legs and body, which makes some species look a bit like tarantulas, but they are in fact very different. As there are many different wolf spider species, their appearances vary a lot
Wolf spiders can be found both indoor and outdoor in Arizona. They are rarely found in groups and prefer to hunt alone. Some are ambushers that lie in wait for a prey to pass by or exit from a burrow. Others chase their prey over relatively short distances.
Wolf spiders are venomous and their venom is poisonous. Bites that penetrate skin can cause pain, swelling and itchiness. Some people only experience the symptoms for a few minutes, while others get a wound that takes a few days to heal.

I have a morbid fear of spiders and my boss recommend Bill’s Pest Control. What a perfect fit. While they cannot guarantee that I will never see a spider they have done a great job so far. Loretta comes out every month and attacks the potential nesting spots and power sprays around our home. After three years I am happy that I went with Bill’s Pest Control.

Hired Bill's Pest 14 years ago after we had a bad experience with spiders. Karen comes out once a month and blasts the entire home. I am most pleased that we do not have any spider issues.
