Area Home Inspectors began offering termite inspections with their service…often for no charge. Pest Control companies with little or no previous termite experience began completing termite reports for unsuspecting realtors and home buyers.
This competition resulted in the average price of a termite inspection dropping along with termite treatments being priced at less than the cost of the products needed to properly treat a home.
In reality the idea behind the “low cost” termite inspection…is volume. To make a fair profit an inspector must do 8-15 inspections a day. With drive time and completing the report…it leaves approximately 10 minutes for the actual inspection. Not much time devoted to the biggest purchasing decision made by the average home buyer. Most experienced termite inspectors will advise it takes a minimum of 45 minutes to an hour to complete a proper termite inspection in Phoenix.
